We gratefully acknowledge assistance with this tournament from ...

  Welcome!

The first recorded Australian baseball match was played on February 21st, 1857, between Collingwood and Richmond, at the Exhibition Grounds in Melbourne.

Nearly 150 years later, it is enjoyed by tens of thousands of Australians, young & old, male & female, summer & winter.

The 6th IBA Pan Pacific Tournament, hosted by NSWJBL in August 2006, marked the return to Australia of high-level international junior baseball.

Played at the pristine Foray St Baseball Complex over six days, the tournament included three local squads plus representatives from Japan, Chinese Taipei and Singapore.

Message from the NSWJBL President

This year offered baseball fans a unique opportunity to see or in some cases play in an international level baseball tournament here in Sydney. We have had international teams visit Sydney before, but this is the first fully international tournament to be staged here since the U19 World Series in 1988 and it is the first younger age Junior championship of this magnitude ever to be played in Australia.

You only have to read the biography of any of the Olympic champions or the athletes who competed in the Commonwealth games recently to know there is nothing like the thrill of competing at a high level before your home crowd. Teams from NSW will travel to Japan and the USA later this year, before competing in front of family and friends in the Pan Pacific Championships here in Sydney in August.

THANK YOU  ...  to all our volunteers

We were overwhelmed with the help provided by a tireless crew of volunteers. Thank you to all the people who have volunteered to help.  As well as general help through the tournament, we had some assistance in specialised areas.

  • Japanese and Chinese speakers / interpreters
  • Umpires
  • Scorers

Thank you for your support
Cheryl Barnier
President N.S.W.J.B.L.

The coin's reverse depicts a kangaroo and the 2006 Australia-Japan YOE logo in colour. Designed by Ivo Widjaja, the logo features the stylised and interconnected letters 'A' and 'J' in the form of a yellow ochre stipple and a red oriental brushstroke. These design elements, including the inscription “AUSTRALIA-JAPAN YEAR OF EXCHANGE” in English and Japanese, are enclosed within a circular pattern of small kangaroos.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin's obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
