The Sydney Team

Background ...

This squad was selected in July by invitation, after the withdrawal of the team from the Philippines. They were in intensive training for several weeks, and were thought to be odds-on to cause an upset somewhere in the tournament! And so it came to pass. This squad tied with the eventual silver medallists, not once but TWICE, and by the same 5:5 scoreline each time. Only the heartbreak of a run countback eliminated them.

Group Stage

• Sydney were placed 3rd in Pool A.
• As such, they were eliminated from the tournament at the Group Stage.
• vs Singapore in the final Group Stage game, they won 5:1
• Congratulations to the kids and coaches who stepped up at short notice to make this team a reality. It's tough to go through a tournament with the same record as the U/15s [USA touring team], only to lose out to them on a run countback. You were never beaten by them, and they went almost all the way:- always remember that! Well done to each and every one of you.
• Final result:- Sydney were placed 5th.
